Prescription0003_id_allHealth officials are quick to blame the drugs industry for what has been called a “disgrace” in the pharmaceutical industry.
A recent poll conducted by theHealth and Human Performance Commissionfound that nearly two-thirds of Australian men say the drugs industry has a vested interest in the promotion or sale of sexual enhancement products.
The survey, conducted between March and May last year, found that roughly 50 per cent of men say that they have suffered adverse effects from drugs for which they have been recommended for treatment by a doctor or a specialist.
While most men say they have not suffered any adverse effects from drugs for which they have been recommended for treatment by a doctor, and some report experiencing side effects, many report experiencing more adverse effects from drugs for which they have been recommended for treatment by a specialist.
For example, men with severe erectile dysfunction reported having experienced headaches, nausea and indigestion in one-third of men. About 50 per cent of men said they had experienced a side effect associated with the use of Viagra (sildenafil citrate), Cialis (tadalafil), Levitra (vardenafil) and other drugs that contain the active ingredient tadalafil, and about 60 per cent said that the drug had been associated with headaches, dizziness and muscle cramps.
A total of nearly 20 million prescriptions for erectile dysfunction drugs were dispensed in Australia by a specialist in 2007, including Viagra, Cialis, Levitra and the new drugs for which the drug is made. According to the Government’s Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency, there were an estimated 300,000 prescription ED drugs in Australia, more than double the number dispensed by doctors.
The survey found that the pharmaceutical industry has been known to have a vested interest in the promotion or sale of sexual enhancement products, and has been a major contributor to the problem.
“There have been no attempts to address the underlying causes of the problem, which could be a product or a market opportunity loss for the pharmaceutical industry,” said Mr. David Cameron, the Government’s Health and Human Performance Commission spokesman.
“The government has not been committed to addressing the problem, and it is not currently engaged in this.”
In addition, the government is also the only regulator of pharmaceutical companies to promote the sale of erectile dysfunction drugs.
The government is also expected to seek to reduce the number of unlicensed or over-the-counter drugs being sold.
Mr. Cameron said the government was working closely with the Australian and New Zealand Drug Enforcement Agency (ANZINET) and other regulatory bodies to address the problem, and that the government was working closely with a number of partners to address the problem.
“The government and ANZINET are working together to address this problem, and we are confident that the government will work with partners to address it,” Mr. Cameron said.
He said the government had not been committed to addressing the problem, but had been working with the industry as a whole to improve the safety of products sold in Australia.
“We’ve been working with a number of partners to improve the safety of products sold in Australia, and we believe the government should do the same,” Mr.
Cameron has said he was not interested in addressing the issue.

But Mr. Cameron said the industry had an “adverse effect” on the pharmaceutical industry.
“We’ve got a vested interest in protecting our consumers from drug-resistant medicines,” he said.
“It’s going to have an adverse effect on the pharmaceutical industry, and that’s an issue that will have a negative impact on the industry.
“It’s not going to be easy for the industry to get its hands on these drugs and get a drug that is approved by the Food and Drug Administration to be taken, or approved for sale, and then they will be sold without a doctor’s prescription.
“There is a huge market for sexual enhancement drugs that are being sold online.”
Cameron said he was not sure how the government would respond to Mr. Cameron’s comments.
“I think Mr. Cameron is saying there’s not a problem,” he said.
